I think it's pretty clear that Lois Lane, written up to her best and not as a marriage-obsessed ninny, is honest and fearless. (Frankly, I believe the fearlessness is amply demonstrated by the amazing number of building collapses, floods and explosions Lois has been in- she's been through all that and she can still leave the house. I couldn't.)

"Honest and fearless" are the primary job prerequisites for being a Green Lantern. (For anyone reading this not into the whole comics thing, a Green Lantern is a space cop with a magic ring that can do anything, as long as it's colored green. It's a cool gig.)

All-Star Superman is all about doing material with a Silver Age flavor and a more modern sensibility. I think Lois deserves an issue in the style of her solo book, only with her doing more than running around trying to prove somebody is somebody else, if you see what I'm getting at. Tell me "Lois Lane, Green Lantern!" wouldn't have fit comfortably as a title from her own book back in the day.

You can't, can you?

(As a matter of fact... does anybody know if that was a story from the old Lois Lane comics? I probably ripped this off and forgot. I still want to see that issue of All-Star, though.)

I was about to say, the whole crack-filled Silver Age and they never made Lois a Green Lantern?

Hi.

IIRC, and I very well may not, Lois' solo book kind of bounced between obsessive twit stories and kick-ass girl reporter stories, but each bounce took a couple of years. I *think* most of the deep, cracky Silver Age is taken up by ninny stuff. That being said, Lois could easily have become a Green Lantern as a consequence of some failed scheme to lure Superman into marriage.

I'm with you on fearless. This is a woman who willingly goes into danger to get her story, who drove a car into a river to set up the situation where she met Superman.

I'm not entirely sure about 'honest', though. Certainly not in her Silver Age stories. This is a woman who would go to almost any lengths to get her way. Lying to people, including her closest friends, disguising herself, B&E, all sorts of stuff.

In the modern age, maybe. I'll admit I haven't been following Superman since... oh, his death.

Thia is why I put in the weaselly language about "written up to her best."

Lois is certainly honest in the sense of not being criminal, which is probably what the Blue Space Guys are looking for. (Hal Jordan, for many years the exemplary Green Lantern, is allowed to deceive- he conceals his own identity, for instance.) As a kick-ass girl reporter, Lois is passionately concerned with exposing corruption and fraud... even if she has to lie about her own identity to do it. She's also professionally incorruptible, as she cannot be bribed or threatened out of reporting an important truth.

While she is certainly capable of deception and lawbreaking, I would say on the whole Lois is as honest (in this sense) as Clark/Superman, who is *always* held up as the paragon of moral rectitude... and canonically qualifies to be a Green Lantern.

In the modern age, maybe.

(It's important to note that the cyclical characterization of Lois goes all the way back to the beginning- in her first few appearances, Lois Lane is made of awesome.)

Hmmmm...I don't think it's been done yet. I know some Silver Age continuity hounds I can ask about it to be sure, though...

And at least one of my sources assures me it's not yet been done.

Intriguing idea, though.

I think I have to write a script. :) If I do, I'll post it.
