There are some people in Buffy fandom who feel that the great friendships of the high school years between the "Core Four" characters (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles) were sort of marginalized and discarded.
In the case of Buffy and Willow, I think these people are very much mistaken.

We'll soon see, most likely, what Joss thinks about the friendship these days. My guess is, once they finally manage to get into the same room, they'll still be thick as thieves.
Back when all of this first aired, I think I had some different ideas. I was wrong then. I'm right now. And never mind what I might say in three or four more years.
PS: I've always found the way Buffy instantly bonds to Willow (and she does, go watch) to be one of the most charming things about Buffy. Buffy gives this whole speech in Empty Places about how she's always kept herself isolated... but right there, first minutes of the first episode, there's a handshake and Buffy picks up a best friend for life.
PPS: Although Willow probably has a favorable opinion of Buffy's attractiveness, I don't think there's a sexual attraction there at all, or that there ever was. As opposed to Xander, for reasons passing understanding.
