Avatar: The Last Airbender came to my attention because it has an entry on every. single. Tvtropes trope page, and because people were complaining about EPIC FAIL in the casting of the live action version. I resisted watching it for a long time because it was something that everybody liked, and everybody's tastes don't agree with mine most of the time.
But in this case? Everybody's right. This is a really good show.
And the live action casting really does smack of EPIC FAIL. It's right up there with (heh, topical) David Carradine inHey, That Guy's Not Chinese! Kung Fu. In a typical anime or old-school comic where everyone has the same generic face, I can "read in" the differing features, because I actually kind of have to. In a show where the characters are actually drawn differently... homogenizing them all is kinda dumb. But I digress.
So I'm off to watch the last two (sob!) episodes.
Iroh rules.
