Amateur Night

I only have one friend who ever qualified as a barfly, and he's become non-practicing. Even back in the days when he used to go out to imbibe, he avoided bars on St. Patrick's Day, because they were overcrowded with people who didn't know what they were doing. I was never quite clear on exactly what those folks needed to be doing differently- pacing themselves, maybe? It would seem to me that almost everyone knows the basics of drinking liquids, as in how to place booze in the mouth and swallow it and so on. In any case, my friend never went to bars on March 17.

I'm not going out tonight either. I don't think I'll enjoy staying home, particularly, but a big raucous crowd is definitely not where my head is at, at this time.
