As of this writing, marriage equality is losing in my state.

I believe in constitutional government. But I also believe that this inequality is very, very wrong. This will be a defect in the California constitution. I hope it shows up on our ballots again and again, until we get it right.

I'm wondering if maybe, just maybe, Prop 8 passing in California might be good in the long run. In that it will surely go to the Supreme Court, because surely someone whose marriage is dissolved by its passing will take a case to the Supreme Court. And the SCOTUS it appears in front of could be one with one or two Obama appointed justices. And that decision could undo ALL the gay-marriage banning laws in ALL states.

Maybe. Hoping.

Well, yeah, but the justices he's most likely going to need to appoint will be replacing the existing liberal judges. That still makes it a court with four conservative justices and one swing vote who might well swing conservative. Realistically, Obama's probably going to appoint, at best, left-leaning centrists.

I believe we're going to get there, but this one's going to be a long hard road.
